Zine culture

A zine (/ziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is most commonly a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier.

Zines use a variety of materials/mediums in order to develop a 'handmade' aesthetic. Being a large part of cultural change, the importance of zines towards the feminist magazine is highly relevant. As the magazine is to promote change within the media, and is in some terms a social, political statement, following key characteristics of a zine will embed this further.

Key features of a zine include:
cut and paste method
cheap manufacturing cost
illustrations
limited colour pallet

My cut and paste method in response

Using both pastiche and parody, the above images (developed through a cut and paste method) remove key titles from women's magazines, placing them in a different context through appropriation. This making the sexist quotes appearing even more absurd than within the context of a women's magazines. These images were scanned and then edited further upon photoshop in order to create contrast. This in turn allowing the images to mimic imagery within a zine.
