Practical COP feedback

Crits were devised in order to gain opinions surrounding the practical idea and design outcomes. In preparation for the critique, a small presentation was devised in order to highlight key attributes, and design ideas for WITCH.

When explaining ideas to the peer group, key design considerations were listed. It was discussed how the publication could capture the 'kitch' style in which Mushpit contains, whilst also highlighting a clear, legible format, similar to Ladybeard. A peer suggested that the best way in which to develop a 'collaboration' of styles would be to create a ven diagram, highlighting the best attributes of each and how they transcend. It was also suggested that the publication doesn't have to be a copy, and therefore personal design influences can be implemented. Other key factors were questioned, such as how to visually represent issues such as genital mutilation. It was suggested that this could be represented through illustration, or it could be mimicked through other objects. For example, a flower representing a vulva. It is essential that 'soft imagery' is used in order to ensure no harm is presented in the publication.
When discussing the use of different mediums, it was suggested that a range of mediums could be used (illustration, cut and paste, photography), as this largely relates to zine culture and the postmodern movement. It was also discussed how this could be done ironically, for example exploring car advertisements.

In order to gain a better understanding of the consumer market, questions were also asked surrounding colour and femininity.  It was suggested that the following attributes build up feminity: Strength, flowers, soft and gentle, ladylike, classy, fairies. It was also suggested that a Barbie pink may be a strong colour to use.

Other areas for further research include:

Five things that need to completed:
