Size/formatting

Before designing the spreads, a consideration towards the formatting of the magazine must be highlighted. This is to ensure all the spreads are of an accurate size.

From looking first hand at the feminist magazines, it may be suggested that a smaller size (A5) is generally used, as this contradicts the large magazine spreads. And as so, would make the feminist publication stand out upon the shelf. This sizing also means that the consumer can easily carry the magazine with them (as by exposure on public transport, may gain interest in the publication). As this is more difficult with larger, glossy magazines (such as Elle), this would defiantly push the feminist magazine further. The publication will also appear portrait in order to mimic the traditional magazine.

In terms of binding, I believe that if the publication was perfect bound, then it would appear more sophisticated, promoting that the information inside is highly important.

Further discussions upon the structure may be made later on, but for noe, the A5 formatting means that the spreads can be developed.
